I worked with the creative and marketing teams at MGA Entertainment to create The Hangrees, an innovative new line of collectible, slime-making parody figures. The Hangrees took kids favorite pop culture figures and showed the world just how much they stink!

The Approach
I was involved in the creation of The Hangrees from concept through final production. Collaborating with the brand’s lead designer, I developed characters and generated punny names for them. I also wrote the brand’s packaging, website, marketing, and social media to help build out a 360 marketing campaign.
In addition to the collectible figures, I wrote a series of stand alone, short form stop motion comedy sketches to serve as ads and organic social media content.
The humor of the Hangrees brand informed every aspect of product development and marketing to help it stand out in the crowded collectibles market.
The Results
The Hangrees collectibles sold millions of units in Walmart, Target, and more major retailers around the world over the next three years, and the team at MGA created two additional successive lines of parody characters.
The YouTube parody videos were viewed by millions of fans around the world and raised the brand’s profile.
The Hangrees helped MGA expand its toy business beyond Little Tikes, Bratz, and L.O.L. Surpise! and further into the collectibles market.
